''Mob connection'' takes on a whole new meaning: With this online homage to ''GoodFellas,'' Missouri college student and Web designer Derek Soviak shows his respect for one of Martin Scorsese's finest. Sporting a very Mob-worthy black and gray color scheme, the site features dozens of quick-loading stills (plus the Morrie's Wig Shop commercial!), audio files of dialogue, a Cosa Nostra glossary, a synopsis of the facts behind the film, and a page of amusing trivia (for example, the site claims that Scorsese asked Joe Pesci to write and direct ''the 'funny' scene''). Made for Mafia maniacs.
Special thanks to Ted Thornhill, the author of this review, for sending me a copy of the mag. Thanks, Ted!
GoodFellas is one helluva film. It stars Ray Liotta as a cocksure young hoodlum; Uncle Robert DeNiro - playing the senior gangster role to perfection and, of course, Joe Pesci - consummate portrayer of psychopathic, trigger-happy Mob men. And Scorsese at the helm. Fantastic. And so it Wiseguys: The Goodfellas Website, which provides a spot-on complement to the film. In fact, it would be no exaggeration to say that some of us at BizArre are slightly obsessed with this page. It's got wallpaper, movie clips, Mafia and film trivia, lingo and a chat service. Best of all, it's got sound files of selected scenes. We like to fire samples of abuse at one another at the end of the day. Pesci offers the most satisfying outbursts. Well, he would, wouldn't he? He's a funny guy. Now go home and get your f--kin' shinebox.
"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster", so said Ray Liotta playing mobster Henry Hill in the movie 'GoodFellas'. This week, the Picks Team is going to make you an offer you can't refuse... better get ready to show us some respect, or we'll send the boys round...
"But, I'm funny how? Funny like a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh?" Ah... Joe Pesci... what a star. The best thing about Wiseguys: The GoodFellas Website is its collection of audio clips from this eminently quotable film. If you're easily shocked, don't go near it, but if you're a fan, the site also contains some images, video and a forum.
